Mark Hughes said he was pleased with his Carlisle United’s determination as they weathered a Port Vale fightback to boost their League Two survival hopes in a thriller.
The Cumbrians raced into the lead, with Georgie Kelly, Matty Dennis and Aaron Hayden getting the goals within an hour of play.
But league leaders Vale bounced back through Jayden Stockley and Sam Hart to put the hosts under the pump.
