THERE were mixed fortunes for EFL sides against Premier League youngsters in the EFL Trophy in midweek.
One of the best group stage matches came at Tranmere, who beat Liverpool U21s 3-2 in a dramatic finale. Jake Cain put Liverpool ahead on 50 minutes but the experienced James Vaughan struck twice in two minutes with quarter of an hour left to turn the tables. The Reds equalised through Luis Longstaff with seven minutes left, but there was still time for another twist.
