Match Preview: Wigan Athletic v Bolton Wanderers (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Bolton, who sit third in the league after 33 games, fell to a 4-1 away defeat to on Saturday.

They face a Wigan side who secured a draw in their last match, a 1-1 tie with Town, and who sit 10th in the table.

With 60 goals in 33 games so far this season, Bolton are the league's joint-second-highest scorers with 1.8 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 37 goals at a rate of 1.1 per game.

Wigan are also above average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.3 goals per game.

In the last 10 years, Wigan and Bolton have played each other on 11 occasions. Wigan won four of them, Bolton two, and they drew five times.

On average, the scored 1.7 goals and Bolton 0.9 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on August 19, when Wigan won 4-0 away.

With Nathan Baxter between the sticks, Wanderers can rely on one of the league's safest pair of hands. He has kept 12 clean sheets in his 28 appearances this season, and only two other ‘keepers – 's Will Norris and 's Lukas Jensen – have been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in League One.

In Athletic's net, Sam Tickle has 10 clean sheets in 34 games. He has conceded a goal every 81 minutes, 20% more often than the 101 minutes between goals for Baxter.

The Latics are in mixed form in League One, with two wins and a draw from their last six games.

With two wins and three draws over that period, the visitors' form is slightly better – they have taken nine points from 18, compared to the home team's seven.

Tuesday's match will be refereed by John Busby, who has taken charge of two League One games so far this season, issuing no red cards and booking seven players. He has awarded one penalty.

He is yet to oversee a match featuring either Wigan or Bolton this season.
