Burton Albion star Jackson Irvine says he has heard nothing more than rumours after he was linked with a transfer to Premier League new boys Brighton.
The Seagulls are keen to add a midfielder to their ranks, and have been linked with a £1m move for Burton‘s goalscoring midfielder, but the news is thought to be nothing more than speculation and the Australian has played the down the reports.
Talking to the Burton Mail, he said: “I’ve obviously read about it, but I don’t believe there’s anything tangible there.
“I haven’t heard anything anyway, and I think if I haven’t heard anything about it then it’s probably not going to be happening just yet.
“Obviously it’s a compliment [to be linked with a Premier League move], though I’m not sure what the source was.
“In terms of anything real happening at the moment, there’s nothing on the cards in that department.”
As well as Brighton, a host of top Championship clubs have been linked with Irvine – Aston Villa and Wolves are said to have shown an interest – but the 24-year-old is just enjoying an extended rest after international duty and looking ahead to the season.
“It’s a long window and you deal with anything as and when it crops up,” he said.
“But I’ll be going back to Burton – we have made some good signings in recent weeks and we’ll see what happens.”
