Bristol City sign Swedish international Engvall

Bristol City have completed the deadline-day signing of Swedish international Gustav Engvall.

The highly rated striker, 20, has agreed a three-year deal at Ashton Gate, with the option of a further year.

He joins for an undisclosed fee from Swedish giants IFK Gothenburg, becoming manager Lee Johnson’s twelfth signing of a busy summer.

Johnson said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Gustav to Ashton Gate.

“This is another big transfer for us and it’s taken a lot of hard work from a lot of people.”

Engvall began his career at Farjestadens GoIF in Sweden’s third tier, but moved to IFK in 2012, making his debut as a 17 year-old.

He went on to score 16 goals in 64 games during his four year spell in Gothenburg, and his time at the former UEFA Cup winners’ saw him make his debut for Sweden’s senior side.

He has also represented his nation at under-17, 19 and 21 level.

Johnson said: “He’s a Swedish international who has excellent finishing ability.”

“I’m sure he will adjust quickly to the pace and tempo of the Sky Bet Championship and when he does he’ll be really dangerous.”

After signing for the Robins, Engvall will now join up with Sweden’s under-21 side for their European qualifiers against Spain and Croatia, before returning to Bristol to start his new club career.
