QPR scoop £5m as Fer leaves for Swans

QPR have confirmed the transfer of Leroy Fer to Swansea City for a fee of around £4.75m.

Fer has signed a three-year contract with Swansea who he joined on loan for the second half of last season, and brings to an end a two-year spell at Loftus Road.

Fer made 50 appearances for QPR as becomes the first high-earning player with time remaining on their contract to leave, as Jiimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Les Ferdinand seek to shed weight in the club’s wage budget.

The Dutch midfielder looks likely not to be the only player leaving west London this week, with winger Matt Phillips agreeing terms with West Bromwich Albion and on the verge of becoming a Baggy by Thursday at the absolute latest.

Defender Steven Caulker and Brazilian midfielder Sandro are also expected to leave the club with all four players mentioned earning more than £35,000-a-week.

QPR have already released Rob Green, Clint Hill, Alejandro Faurlin, Armand Traore, Samba Diakite, and Yun Suk-Young this summer and acquired Jake Bidwell, Joel Lynch, and Ariel Borysiuk.

Boss Hasselbaink seems likely to try and turnaround Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ fortunes by keeping the attacking midfielder in his first-team plans, with the former Bristol City and MK Dons man bagging two goals and an assist in the R’s first pre-season match against Aldershot last Friday.
