Gary Rowett upbeat despite Oxford United’s defeat to Birmingham

Gary Rowett insisted his Oxford side would not be judged on their defeat at Birmingham after seeing encouraging signs in the display.

The U’s slipped to a narrow loss at St Andrew’s but Rowett felt his players competed well, particularly in the first half, and showed qualities he believes eves they can build on.
“I thought for 35 minutes we competed incredibly well,” said Rowett.
“We changed our system and we’d not worked on it for more than a couple of days.
“I was actually really pleased with a lot of it. I thought we were brave on the ball.
