Nothing captures the capricious nature of the Championship like the recent fortunes of the division’s two north-east giants.
When Middlesbrough travelled to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in their final game before the October internationals, the Teessiders trailed their local rivals by 13 places.
Boro won the derby 4-0, and within two games had climbed to seventh position - two places HIGHER than Sunderland.
What does this tell us? That until the business end of the season, league position in the Championship is practically meaningless.
