MICK McCarthy was shown the door shortly after his Cardiff City side slumped to yet another defeat.
The 62-year-old and his assistant Terry Connor departed with the Bluebirds having lost their last eight Championship matches.
Andraz Sporar’s first-half penalty and Martin Payero’s late second secured a third successive win for play-offchasing Middlesbrough.
And just over an hour after the final whistle, McCarthy’s fate was sealed.
