I CAN only look back at my career and say how important January signings were when I got out of the Championship.
At Sunderland in 2006/07, we brought in Jonny Evans and Danny Simpson to give us some top-quality defensive additions and both proved to be superb in helping us play out better and keep it tighter at the back.
We ended up winning the league and their additions, plus a few more, did help us over the line.
At Southampton, we already had a team full of stellar names who would go on to grace the Premier League but we still strengthened in January.
