The EFL final day delivered high drama as Ipswich Town sealed promotion to the Premier League and Cambridge United dropped into League One.

But the chaos didn’t stop there.

Bromley clinched the League Two title ahead of Milton Keynes Dons, Billy Sharp signed off with a hat-trick for Doncaster Rovers, and Richie Wellens went viral after blasting his Leyton Orient players for celebrating survival.

Stevenage also snatched the final play-off spot in League One with a last-gasp winner.

Here’s a look at some of the standout moments you might have missed from a dramatic final day.

Ravens soar to title win

Bromley boss Andy Woodman hailed the character and spirit of his side after they sealed the title with a victory against Walsall.

Ben Thompson gave the Ravens a first-half advantage, and Mitch Pinnock doubled the lead after an hour.

Jid Okeke reduced the arrears for the visitors, but Omar Sowunmi restored the two-goal cushion shortly afterwards.

A draw against Fleetwood Town for MK Dons meant the title would go to Hayes Lane.

And Woodman was emotional post-match, saying: “My guys kept believing and pushing, we had some adversity that people didn’t realise.

“We had some luck with Fleetwood drawing with MK Dons, but it feels amazing to say [we] are champions.

“These young men deserve all the credit – the trophy and the medals are lovely, but the memories of these boys achieving what I said they could achieve is the proudest moment.”

Sharp signs off in style with a clinical show

Grant McCann hailed the veteran striker after he produced a stunning final act for Doncaster against Peterborough United

The 40-year-old struck a second-half hat-trick as Rovers closed out their first season back in League One on a high, underlining his enduring quality in front of goal.

After a quiet first half, Sharp ignited the contest when George Broadbent capitalised on a loose back pass and teed him up for a simple finish.

He soon doubled the lead from close range and had the final word after Posh pulled one back, rifling home his third and coming within inches of a fairytale 300th career goal, only to be denied by the offside flag.

“Billy knew he needed four goals today to hit the 300 and I spoke to him during the week about it,” McCann said.

“I thought he was going to do it, and I thought every time he went forward today, he was going to score. He’s unreal, honestly.

“Whatever words I use, it isn’t going to be enough to speak about Billy.

“It’s absolute testament to him and his teammates to try and find him those opportunities and chances today. He was clinical with every one. Even the one where he was offside, he was clinical.”

On that particular ‘fourth’ goal, McCann added: “It was tight. I’m gutted that he’s not going to be here next year because he’s such a top, top pro and a player.

“But whatever Billy does, I’m sure he will do it to the best of his ability like he’s done his whole career.”

Wellens goes mad in post-match rant

Angry Orient boss Wellens was left fuming at the attitude of his side, despite securing League One status with the draw against Burton Albion.

Goals from Will Forrester and Dom Ballard kept the east London club in the third tier, despite equalisers from Fabio Taveres and Alex Hartridge.

The result left them with no wins in the final eight games of the season, and just one place above relegated Exeter City

Wellens was particularly angry with the lackadaisical approach in the latter stages of the contest, especially given the high stakes involved.

He said “I’m pleased for the supporters, but for the last 15 minutes we were a disgrace.

“We were passing around the back, and we didn’t want to win the game. We thought the game was won with Exeter losing, but in football, you never know.

“They could score two goals quickly but the way we passed it about summed the group up.

“I’ve come out a couple of times and had a go at supporters, and I want to apologise to them for that. We are weak, really really weak.

“The last six to seven weeks, we’ve served up some absolute rubbish.

“We have relegation written all over us, we relied on somebody else getting the result for us.”

Boro snatch play-off spot amid final day drama

Dan Sweeney’s stoppage-time goal dramatically secured Stevenage a place in the play-offs, leaving manager Alex Revell in a state of shock.

The sub’s goal sent Boro back up to sixth at the expense of Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle, booking them a two-legged tie against Stockport County

The linesman said it had gone over the line, but there was still an air of controversy of whether it had actually gone in.

Nevertheless, bedlam followed in the stands at Broadhall Way, and at the final whistle, and after the boss picked his way through the throng, he was full of praise for the players.

“I can’t really describe it to be honest,” said Revell. “I am so proud of every single person – I know what this group’s about, and this just summed up who we are.”

Elsewhere, Swindon Town missed out on the final play-off spot after defeat to Chesterfield, with manager Ian Holloway issuing an apology to supporters.

At the other end, Barrow and Harrogate Town dropped out of the Football League after both failed to win and climb out of the bottom two.

Newport County – who beat Barrow – along with Crawley Town and Tranmere Rovers, did just enough to survive at their expense.

Finally, Gary Rowett confirmed his intention to remain at Leicester City following their relegation to League One, while veteran boss Roy Hodgson admitted it is unlikely he will return to the dugout after his interim spell at Bristol City ended in victory.
