DARYL Dike, the new West Bromwich Albion striker, didn’t score his first professional goal until August 2020.
Now 21, he has spent the subsequent 18 months laughing in the face of expected goal statistics.
Expected goals are a means of measuring the quality of a chance, on a scale of 0-1. The more difficult the chance, the lower the xG. A 25-yard shot on a player’s weaker foot, for example, might have an xG of 0.1. A penalty is 0.76.
