Centre-back Pontus Jansson has become the latest player to commit his future to the club today, signing a new five year contract at Elland Road.

The formidable Swedish international joined the Whites last season on loan from Italian side Torino, and the move was made permanent this summer after a hugely impressive debut season in English for Jansson.

The 26-year-old has made 47 appearances and scored three goals so far for the club, becoming a key figure in the side and a popular player amongst the fan-base for his honest and no-nonsense approach.

He is now set to stay in Yorkshire until the end of the 2021/22 season, providing a valuable morale boost to a Whites side that has lost four of its last five games in all competitions.

The Swede joins a long list of players to put pen to paper on contract extensions in recent months, alongside the likes of Eunan O’Kane, Stuart Dallas, Ronaldo Vieira and Luke Ayling.

Speaking to LUTV, Jansson confirmed his delight at the deal: “I’m really happy of course. It’s felt like my second home since day one,” he said.

“The first day when I come here everybody was good with me, and with all the positive results on the pitch and everybody helped me in a good way. Of course I’m really happy now.

“Like I said this really feels like my second home. Me and my family we love it here, and everyone is so, so nice to us, and I hope I can stay here and make people happy.”
