Burton ‘keeper Bywater signs contract extension with Brewers

goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has extended his stay at the Pirelli Stadium today, signing a new contract that keeps him at the club until the end of next season.

The former long-time County shot-stopper, who has represented 15 different teams over a 20 year career, joined the in January 2016.

The 36-year-old has become integral to 's side of late, starting every game in the so far this season.

told the club's official website about his happiness with the deal: “He's been exemplary since coming into the team at the end of last season following Jon McLaughlin's injury and he has been one of our most consistent performers this season,” he said.

“He's got lots of experience which is very important and is competing for that number one spot with Connor Ripley, and we have Harry Campbell in the background.

“It's a very strong department as we have some good young goalkeepers at the club as well.”

Bywater was also pleased with the extension, saying: “I am over the moon to sign a new contract. The gaffer has done a great job with the team since I joined.

“I am very grateful for the new deal and it shows how much faith he has in me. I love being here and we have a great group of lads who want to work hard for each other.”

Bywater will look to continue his good form when travel to the City Ground to take on tomorrow.
