Gateshead boss Neil Aspin nearing Port Vale appointment

Gateshead manager Neil Aspin is reportedly set to become the new boss at Port Vale within the next 24 hours, ending a two year spell with the Heed.

The League Two club have been on the lookout for a new manager since parting company with Michael Brown on 16 September after he led them to their worst start in 50 years.

And now the Shields Gazette are reporting that Aspin will be named the new man in charge at Vale Park by this time tomorrow.

Gateshead made a statement on the matter today, saying: “In light of the ongoing speculation surrounding Gateshead manager Neil Aspin, we can confirm that discussions regarding his future at the club are ongoing.

“As a result, assistant manager Lee Nogan will take charge of the side at AFC Fylde this evening. A further statement will be made in due course.”

The Gateshead native started his managerial career with Harrogate Town in 2005, spending five years at Wetherby Road before moving on to Halifax Town.

He enjoyed an immensely successful six years spell with the Shaymen, leading them to three promotions in four seasons and a West Riding County Cup triumph.

That success earned him the job with his hometown club, managing ninth and eighth place finishes in his time with the Tyneisders.

He now looks set to step into the breach at Vale Park, with the Valiants currently languishing in 22nd in the League Two table.
