Chesterfield have today announced that former Spireites player Jack Lester is the club’s new manager, replacing the sacked Gary Caldwell.

The 41-year-old enjoyed a six year spell at the Proact Stadium, scoring 94 goals in 219 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Lester has been Under-18 and Under-23 coach at his fellow former club Nottingham Forest, leading the former to the Professional Development League title.

However that is the extend of his managerial experience thus far, and the post at Chesterfield is his maiden one in first team football. He will be assisted by Nicky Eaden who joins from Coventry City.

“I am really proud to be given this opportunity and I’m aiming to build something special,” he told the club’s official website.”

Spireites director Ashley Carson said: “I spoke to a number of people who expressed interest in the job and it soon became clear that Jack was the outstanding candidate.

“Jack has impressed at the start of his coaching career as part of Nottingham Forest’s highly respected academy set-up and he now feels ready to take on the challenge of a managerial role.”

Owner Dave Allen said: “I am delighted to hear about the appointment of Jack Lester. I think it’s an excellent decision and I feel sure that his infectious enthusiasm, along with his attention to detail and experience in the game will help to lift the club out of its present position.”

Chesterfield dismissed Caldwell on 16 September after eight months in charge, with the Scot overseeing just one win from ten games earlier this season.

The club currently sit second from bottom in League Two, with Lester’s first game in charge set to be at home to Cheltenham tomorrow.
