Gillingham have announced this morning that manager has left the beleaguered side by mutual consent.

Saturday’s 3-0 loss to turned out to be the 46-year-old’s last game for the club, as their ‘revival’ of a week ago – which saw them pick up their first league win of the season against – proved to be short-lived.

Pennock leaves the team third from bottom in League One, having recorded one win, three draws and five defeats from the club’s opening nine fixtures.

Gillingham made a short statement this morning, announcing that Pennock had left the club along with first team coach Jamie Day.

They thanked both Pennock and Day for their services to the club and wished them well for the future, promising that chairman would make a further comment later on today.

The former boss joined in January of this year, and succeeded in preserving their League One status last season.

Pennock had a fine seven year spell with the club as a player, and despite last season’s modest success after replacing Justin , he hasn’t managed to replicate that fruitfulness as manager.

Recent weeks have seen former Aston and Newcastle player Nolberto Solano linked with the managerial position at the Priestfield Stadium, with the Peruvian said to be eager to work in England.
