Pompey’s player of the season Enda Stevens shares delight at title triumph with fans

Trophy-winning Enda Stevens has revealed his delight at giving fans something to smile about after years of rebuilding from financial oblivion.

The player of the season gong winner added the title to his accolades this season when Paul ‘s side thrashed 6-1 at Fratton Park. The victory clinched the trophy having already achieved promotion after four seasons spent in the fourth tier in their match with .

Staving off the very real risk of liquidation in 2012, the full-back expressed the serenity of bringing glory to the Pompey faithful.

“You get blown away by it. You can’t put into words how it feels. It’s madness,” the 26-year-old told The .

“This club is begging for success – and we’ve given it to them.

“It’s been our aim since we’ve been here to give the fans that joy.

“We wanted to put the smile on the fans’ faces after those years of pain.

“This is the best moment of my career. The drama was unbelievable.”

The Irishman has been ever-present this season for this season featuring in 45 out of 46 starting line-ups on Pompey’s path to glory.

Stevens added: “The league doesn’t lie. After 46 games we’re top of the league – we’re the best team.’
