Odemwingie heads to Indonesia after leaving Millers

Ex- United striker Peter Odemwingie has signed for Indonesia top flight side Madura United after being without a club for two months.

The Nigerian international left the relegated club at the end of January in a failed stint which saw the veteran fail to score.

And after his move to south-east Asia the 35-year-old proclaimed: “These are exciting times for Indonesian and I’m happy to be a part of it.

“Hopefully I can roll back the years by scoring important goals for Madura,” Odemwingie said.

Madura came third in last year’s Indonesian Championship with this year’s competition set to feature some familiar faces to English clubs in former striker Carlton Cole and ‘s Michael Essien.

Odemwingie added at a press conference: “To be regarded as a marquee signing is huge – I’ve played in different European countries but this place is really beautiful – and the people are very friendly.

“I’ve scored goals at all the top clubs I played and I believe with the help of my teammates I can still do the same here.”

Odemwingie turned down a tabled offer from in order to sign a short-term deal at Rotherham and play at a ‘higher level’, making seven appearances and contributing one assist.
