Solihull Moors boss Bignot unveiled as new Grimsby manager

Grimsby Town have announced the appointment of Solihull Moors boss Marcus Bignot as their new manager.

The 42-year-old, who started his coaching career at Birmingham City Ladies, replaces former Mariners manager Paul Hurts, who left the club to take over at League One strugglers Shrewsbury at the end of last month.

Bignot will also bring his Solihull Moors assistant Micky Moore to Blundell Park, despite him only beginning his role at The Moors at the start of this season.

It has been a hugely successful six-year spell in charge at Solihull for Bignot, who guided them to the National League in 2015-16, and ahead of his unveiling at Grimsby today, bid an emotional farewell to the club after Saturday’s thrilling 2-2 draw against Yeovil in the FA Cup.

Speaking on a fan’s coach after the game, he said: “From a personal point of view, I’m proud of this football club and over the moon at where this football club has come and really excited at where the football club is going to go.

“From me and my family, you’ve made us very welcome and these six years have moulded me into the person I am today.”

“Football management is cut-throat, it’s ruthless and very rarely do you get a chairman, a board and supporters who make it a family.

“It’s a special club and you can be proud of what we’ve done.”

Former QPR and Crewe winger Bignot will take charge of his first game in charge of Grimsby on Wednesday night, when his new side take on Sheffield United in the EFL Trophy, while his first League Two game will be at home against Barnet.
