Fulham’s transfer embargo lifted

The Football League have lifted the transfer embargo placed on Fulham, allowing them to now trade freely in the summer transfer window.

The embargo was enforced in December following the Cottagers financial loss for the 2014/15 season that exceeded the Financial Fair Play limit of £6m. A figure reached in a year where club owner Shahid Khan purchased Ross McCormack and Matt Smith for a combined £11.5m.

A statement posted on the club’s official website, read: “Following confirmation from the Football League, this afternoon Fulham FC announced that its transfer embargo has officially been lifted, and that it is free to trade over the summer months.

“With the embargo now lifted, the club will continue to pursue its targets in an effort to ensure it has a squad capable of competing successfully in the 2016/17 Championship campaign.”

In anticipation of the embargo being reversed, Khan vowed last month to transform the team that scraped through a relegation fight and back manager Slavisa Jokanovic, saying, “Slavisa will be given the green light to build a team capable of promotion, and that’s important, because it appears the Championship will be as difficult as ever.”

Despite the struggles of this season, loan signing Michael Madl managed to impress in a defence that leaked 79 goals and the Whites could trigger an option in their deal with Sturm Graz to make the move permanent.

The Austrian could be a straight replacement for team-mate Dan Burn, who revealed he will be leaving West London when his contract expires in June.
