Former Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish is set to become the manager of Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek.
The Scot, who has also managed Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, has held talks with the reigning Champions of Egyptian football, according to Zamalek's chairman Mortada Mansour.
McLeish, 57, has been out of work since resigning as manager of Belgian top flight club KRC Genk at the end of the 2014/15 season.
A statement released on Zamalek's website confirmed the appointment the former Scotland national team boss.
“Murtaza Mansour, chairman of the club, has confirmed that Alex McLeish has signed with him in principle to lead the first team,” the statement said.
Under McLeish, Birmingham were promoted to the Premier League as runners-up in 2009 and beat Arsenal 2-1 in the Capital One Cup final when Obafemi Martins scored a 89th-minute winner at Wembley.
McLeish will become the second Scotsman to manage Zamalek, the first being Derby County legend Dave Mackay who led the club to successive Championships in the two seasons he spent in Cairo.
