Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink returns to Burton Albion

Hasselbaink returns to the Pirelli Stadium for a second spell, as successor to Jake Buxton

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been reappointed as Albion manager, after almost three years out of coaching, with the club bottom of .

The former and striker is Albion’s third manager in the last nine months after boss stepped down last May. Clough’s departure was due to financial restraints thrust upon the club, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Initially appointed as player-manager, Jake Buxton guided the club through the remainder of 19/20 season, following Clough’s departure.

Buxton has now been dismissed following four defeats on the trot – including a 4-3 home reverse against fellow strugglers Athletic. The are currently bottom of League One and eight points from safety.

Hasselbaink, achieved promotion from during the 14/15 season in his first stint at Burton. Most recently, he has had spells managing Queens Park Rangers and . He has also worked as a pundit for Sky Sports.

The former Dutch international, spoke of his fondness for Burton and believes that the task at hand is completely different to the one he encountered during his previous reign at the club.

“Burton Albion is a club which is very close to my heart and a really special club for me and my family,” said Hasselbaink

“The job is totally different from the first time, but we are coming in to try as quickly as possible to get us up the league and keep ourselves in League One – that’s our aim and first and foremost that’s what we will be trying to do.”

Former Oldham and head coach Dino Maamria will be assistant coach to Hasselbaink.
