Mansfield Town close in on Graham Coughlan successor

are set to announce as their new manager eight days on from sacking Graham Coughlan.

A dismal start to the season leaves the Stags languishing in 22nd in the standings after 11 winless games, and is set to be tasked with turning fortunes around before the weekend.

Chief executive David Sharpe has been in charge of recruiting Coughlan's successor after cut ties following a heavy defeat to Barrow last week.

Clough has been out of work since leaving Burton Albion in May as the club took measures to cut costs by parting company with Clough on amicable terms.

The 54-year-old had spent the past five years at the Pirelli Stadium, gaining promotion to the Championship in 2015-16 where the club survived a season before being relegated back to in the next.

Odds on Clough being named the new manager of Mansfield have been slashed to 1/8, with caretaker boss Richard Cooper, and Gary Caldwell also mooted for the position.

Together with a 22-year association with , Clough has also managed and Sheffield United in his career.

Clough's first match in charge, if appointed before the weekend as expected, could come in the FA Cup when the Stags travel to .
