Bristol City winger Andi Weimann ruled out for the rest of the season

For the second time inside a week Bristol City have been dealt the blow of a first-team player suffering a serious knee injury, with Andi Weimann set to miss the rest of the season.

The Austrian winger is believed to have torn his ACL, which usually carries a recovery time of six to nine months, afer he was assisted off the pitch in the Robins‘ 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Saturday.

It is yet another knock to manager Dean Holden’s fast start at Ashton Gate, following on from centre-back Alfie Mawson undergoing surgery this week on a serious knee injury.

No timescale has been put on Mawson’s return but the club can rely on his season-long loan at least offering a glimmer that he can kit up once again.

As for Weimann, who has scored two goals in seven appearances in the Championship, he posted an update via Instagram reflecting on his state of shock.

“I’m not going to lie… I am still in shock about the news I received about my injury over the last couple of days and it hasn’t quite sunk in yet,” Weimann wrote.

“From pretty much not missing a game or even a training session over the last 5 years or so it’s going to be very strange and hard not to be out there running around like a headless chicken for such a long time.

“But I’m a positive person and I know I’ll be back as soon as physically possible.

“All I can do now is to support the boys and staff in any way I can to still make this a special season.”
