A Carlisle statement confirmed: “The board of Carlisle United is very disappointed to announce that it has reluctantly agreed to accept the resignation of John Sheridan, who will be leaving the club with immediate effect.

“Assistant first team manager Tommy Wright and first team coach Paul Murray will take charge of tomorrow’s match against Mansfield, with the support and assistance of director of David Holdsworth.”

“If people don’t like it it I’ll leave.

“The players get a lot of freedom from me, a lot of perks on the other side, they need to respect where I’m coming from, and if they don’t – and I’m getting sick and tired of it, then they can go, or I’ll go.”

Sheridan now appears to be announced as the new manager at old club Chesterfield in the next few days.

The parted company with after Boxing Day with the club in the National League relegation zone.

Carlisle have confirmed they have already started their search for Sheridan’s replacement.
