Steve Bruce has been named as the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday three months after he was sacked at Aston Villa.
The 58-year-old succeeds Jos Luhukay but will not take official charge of first-team matters until February 1, with assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence in control.
Luhukay was dismissed by the Owls board last month after less than 12 months in the job, losing ten games in 22 league matches.
In the time since the Dutchman’s sacking caretake manager Lee Bullen has guided Wednesday to two victories and two draws in four games.
Bruce guided Aston Villa to the Championship play-off final last May and was on the losing end of Wembley defeat.
He now takes over a club whose Thai owner Dejphon Chansiri claimed he was listening to buyout offers at a fans’ forum last month, amid issues with Financial Fair Play rules.
16th in the Championship table, the Owls were placed under transfer embargo by the EFL from April to August 2018.
The league FFP rules stipulate a club cannot post losses of more than £39million over three years, and Wednesday’s most recent accounts for 2016-17 showed they had lost £20million in one financial year.
