The long, hard slog that is the EFL came to an entertaining climax this weekend, with all three leagues wrapping up their action.
Beneath blazing skies, sides clinched promotion, suffered the drop, and endured every twist in between.
Leeds United won the Championship in the last minute, beating Plymouth Argyle to put the cherry on top of an outstanding campaign that saw both them and Burnley finish on 100 points.
Luton Town suffered back-to-back relegations and will play in League One next season, much to the relief of the four other teams with which they were battling for relegation on the final day.
Goals flew in across the divisions, with pressure-free clashes between mid-table sides serving up some of the weekend’s most entertaining football.
All in all, it was a fitting end to the season and now we have the play-offs to look forward to.
Here is Charlie Elliott’s final Team of the Week of the 2024/25 regular season.
Arthur Okonkwo (Wrexham AFC)
Wrexham have only conceded one goal on a Saturday in 2025, which is an insane record and a testament to the whole defensive unit.
While they had already secured promotion to the Championship last week, they put in a professional performance to end the season with a 2-0 win away against Lincoln City.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has been outstanding this season and finished off the campaign with an assured display.
Three saves, all from shots taken inside the box, were enough to get himself and his team the clean sheet.
He will likely still be at the club next season, and seems more than capable of making the step up to the second tier.
Cameron Norman (Tranmere Rovers)
Tranmere Rovers looked for all the world like they were going to be seriously embroiled in a relegation battle in League Two, but some good form under new manager Andy Crosby saw them propelled up to 20th on the last day.
They leapfrogged Newport County and Accrington Stanley with a 4-1 away win against the former, as fullback Cameron Norman got himself a brace of assists.
His second assist was the best of the two, putting a deep cross on a plate for striker Kristian Dennis to chest down and fire home at the back post.
Rovers will be happy that they stayed up and will be looking to get themselves even further up the table next season.
George Johnston (Bolton Wanderers)
Bolton Wanderers have had an extremely forgettable season for their standards, and it was a fitting end in many ways.
They drew 1-1 away to Stevenage in a game which was not a classic by any stretch of the imagination and ended their season ten points away from the play-offs.
Despite this, centre back George Johnston did put in a mega shift at the centre of the back three, winning the most tackles in the game and being a dominant presence throughout.
He won a mammoth 17 duels across the 90 minutes, including a couple of last-man tackles.
Without him, the Wanderers’ end to the season could have been so much worse.
Callum Styles (West Bromwich Albion)
Slightly out of position in this team, playing as a centre back here despite being a left back or midfielder, Callum Styles makes his way into the XI.
That is because there were two outstanding performers on the left of defence and both had to get in somehow.
The Hungarian international got two goals and an assist in West Bromwich Albion’s remarkable 5-3 win over Luton, which resigned the Hatters to a second relegation in a row down to League One.
A neat cross to Darryl Dike gave Albion a 2-1 lead at the time, before Styles scored a brace in the space of four minutes to make it 5-1 with just under half an hour to go.
His first goal was a poacher’s finish from close range, but his second truly was a moment of brilliance.
He received the ball in acres of space on the edge of the box, took a touch to get it out of his feet and rifled it into the bottom corner.
Josh Tymon (Swansea City)
The other left-back who couldn’t miss out is Josh Tymon.
The Swansea City man got a hat-trick of assists in their 3-3 draw at home to Oxford United.
In true end of season fashion, two mid-table clubs with nothing to play for just went out and played with no fear, much to the enjoyment of everyone who watched.
While he didn’t have to do too much for his first, as Ji-Sung Eom scored a worldie, his other two were almost identical and were perfectly weighted crosses that the respective goalscorers couldn’t miss.
The Swans hit a good run of form to end the season and may be aiming for a promotion push next season.
Josh Brownhill (Burnley)
Burnley just about missed out on the Championship title after Leeds won in the last minute against Argyle, but they won’t care as they will be playing Premier League football next season.
With their fate already sealed, they just had to beat Millwall and hope the Whites didn’t win.
They did their bit with a 3-1 win over Millwall, with Josh Brownhill bagging a couple of goals.
A composed side-footed finish from the penalty spot and then a tidy free-kick right at the death ended his and the Clarets’ season in style.
With Premier League experience already, he looks set to stay and fight for his place next season.
Reece Cole (Exeter City)
Possibly a slightly rogue pick given that Exeter City lost 3-0 away against Mansfield Town, but Reece Cole was a rose amongst thorns and was brilliant in midfield.
He ended the game with six chances created and five dribbles completed, which on another day could have put the result in the Grecians’ favour.
Perhaps less impressively, Cole had eight shots with only one on target, but did hit the woodwork twice in the game.
Someone who tried to make things happen, his performance in such a big defeat is commendable.
Tom Fellows (West Bromwich Albion)
Unsurprisingly, given their five-goal haul, Albion have two players credited in this team for their attacking exploits.
Midfielder Tom Fellows scored two and assisted one in the 5-3 win over Luton, which meant that the Baggies finished only four points outside of the Championship play-offs.
Two finishes from close range that were more akin to a prolific striker than a midfielder, he also played the pass to Styles for his tidy finish, which I have already mentioned.
Marcelino Nunez (Norwich City)
Chilean international Marcelino Nunez has shown a lot of quality in flashes this season, but has sometimes lacked consistency.
In Norwich City’s 4-2 win over Cardiff City, he showed the absolute best of his game and got two goals and an assist.
Both strikes came within the first 20 minutes and the second was a wonderful free-kick from 25 yards out, which curled outwards into the top right corner of Jak Alnwick’s goal.
If he keeps it up across 46 games next season, he will be unstoppable.
Jaidon Anthony (Burnley)
A joy to watch on the wing for Burnley this season, Jaidon Anthony finished his campaign off with a standout performance against Millwall, bagging a goal.
Seven chances created and the most dribbles completed in the match, just about sums up what makes the winger so unstoppable, and he was able to add a bit of end product to the performance.
A curled effort in the 65th minute proved to be the winner and put the cherry on top of a great season for him personally and for his team.
Rob Street (Doncaster Rovers)
Doncaster Rovers secured the League Two title at Meadow Lane, with a 2-1 win against Notts County.
Striker Rob Street scored both of Rovers’ goals to end his season on a decent haul of 12 league goals.
His first was literally impossible to miss from about a yard out, but he showed a real striker’s instinct to chip over Alex Bass while under pressure from the County defenders to double their lead and send the away end into bedlam.
He should be renamed to ‘Quality Street’ after this one and the scenes that followed the game are enough to warrant his place in this team.
