BACK when I played for Rotherham, opposition teams absolutely hated coming to play at Millmoor. It was cramped. It was falling to pieces. The pitch was a state. Most sides were frightened of us before they even turned up.

I remember one time we played West Ham in a Championship game. It was August, I think, and they’d just been relegated from the Premier League. They arrived at our place and refused to even get changed because they said there wasn’t enough space in the dressing room for all their kit men, sports scientists and whoever else they’d brought along.
