Morgan Whittaker’s first two goals for Middlesbrough were a sweet relief to the 24-year-old, who has roundly failed to impress the Riverside faithful since January’s £5m switch from Plymouth.

Jeers have even been heard at times. But it was always going to be tough. His value was based on a single 19-goal season in 2023-24, when practically everything that left his boot hit the net.
Thanks to a slew of long-range efforts, Whittaker over performed his xG by a huge 6.75.
That is simply unsustainable.
