Imran Louza is a reminder that signing good players doesn’t always equate to signing the right players.
The Moroccan playmaker is a gifted technician who, at his best, operates like a budget Kevin De Bruyne. On paper, the £8.6m that Watford shelled out to sign him from Nantes in 2021 looked like shrewd business.
Had the Hornets remained in the Premier League, that might well have been the case. They didn’t, and Louza’s style, physique and mentality have since proved incompatible with the demands of the Championship.
