Joey Barton’s abrupt rebrand as a misogynist, woke-baiting, budget Alex Jones always looked like the calculated attention-seeking of a man with something to peddle.
The announcement that the former Bristol Rovers boss will soon be hosting a podcast was, therefore, about as surprising as Darwin Nunez skying a sitter.
Barton has got what he wants. Column inches. Social media traction. Threats of legal action. He even got a mention in parliament, with UK sports minister Stuart Andrew condemning a variety of playground insults and vaguely pledging to take social media platforms to task.
