The way football clubs are run has changed dramatically over the last decade, yet it remains the manager who carries the can for failure. Why?
On Wednesday, Mark Fotheringham became the second manager of the season to be dismissed by Huddersfield Town. His reign lasted 132 days, 63 more than predecessor Danny Schofield.
Both failed to put points on the board, but is that entirely their fault? Schofield and Fotheringham were managerial novices, learning on the job with a squad of players that still lacks depth and quality. They were set up to fail.
