FOR EFL clubs, Christmas is gravy. Cash raked in now can tide many lower league clubs through the fallow summer months, so any sort of shutdown would represent a financial catastrophe.
But what to do? So transmissible is the Omicron variant that - vaccines aside - any preventative measure seems doomed.
Like water, it will find the gaps, leaving the EFL and their members facing an awful choice. As rules stand, any team with 14 available players are duty-bound to fulfil their fixtures. That’s a pretty low bar.
