Stephy Mavididi, the Leicester City winger, is typical of many wide players who come to prominence in the French top flight.
They run so quickly with the ball that they wind up in dead ends and the final ball is never delivered.

Talent-wise, you could see the Englishman’s quality. I’d watch him for Dijon and Montpellier and think ‘There’s a player who is capable of providing ten goals and ten assists every season’.

But the consistency wasn’t there. In his first season at Montpellier, he got nine goals and no assists. In his second, he got eight goals and three assists.
