It is no surprise that Neil Harris quit Millwall just a few days after calling a group of abusive supporters “thickos”.
When the 47-year-old stepped down for the first time in 2019, he openly admitted that he did not want fan discontent to sour his relationship with a club for whom he scored a record 138 goals.
It is why his transformative return in February was never intended as anything more than a short-term fix.
Harris knew that all managers have a shelf life.
