Ball in play? Let’s not get obsessed

Have you ever come away from a match thinking that the ball hadn’t been in play enough? No, me neither.
The deluge of data about everything football-related these days makes us consider things we’ve not previously thought much about, if at all.
For example, we’ve been told the average amount of time the ball spent in play in the Championship last season was 52 minutes. It was 50 minutes in League One and 48 in League Two.
