A FRESH TAKE ON FOOTBALL

STEVE Bruce is best remembered for the headed brace that virtually sealed Manchester United’s first Premier League title, but his heroics did not start there.
In the 1990-91 campaign, Bruce scored an incredible 19 goals, all whilst playing as a centre-half.
Eleven of them were penal- ties, but still. We are talking about a total that saw him finish the season as United’s joint-top scorer in the First Di- vision alongside forward Brian McClair, with a tally of 13 league goals that fell just three short of a prime Ian Rush.
