Mark Fotheringham was born in Dundee and schooled at Celtic but it was the German city of Freiburg im Breisgau where he first fell in love with football.
Fotheringham, the new manager of Huddersfield Town, was just 21 when he quit the UK to chance his arm at Freiburg, a yo-yo club near the Swiss-French border led by legendary coach Volker Finke.
