Paul Cook brings in familiar face at Wigan, as Roberts signs for the season

Gary Roberts has linked up with yet again, with the experienced midfielder signing for Wigan today on a deal until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old had been a free agent since leaving by mutual consent at the end of last season, and joins for a third time following stints together at and Pompey.

Roberts managed to score an identical 14 goals in 74 appearances for those two clubs and will now bring his wealth of experience to the DW Stadium as Cook's men attempt to return to the second tier at the first time of asking.

boss Cook told Wigan's official website why he brought Roberts in: “Gary is a player I trust and who has proven himself at this level.

“He will make a significant contribution and I'm delighted to have him on board.”

Roberts has been a part of four promotion campaigns over the course of his career, including with Chesterfield where he won the 2014 Player of the Year award. He has also had spells with Welshpool Town, Accrington Stanley, , Alexandra, and Swindon.

He joins a Wigan side that has claimed three wins and one draw from their opening four league games this season, currently lying in second place in the table.
