Ezri Konsa makes Brentford switch

20-year-old defender Ezri Konsa has left Charlton Athletic to sign for Dean Smith’s Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

The high-rated defender featured 47 times for the South London club last season as the Addicks narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.

Konsa was part of the England U21 side which lifted won Toulon Tournament this summer.

Smith told Brentford’s official club website, “We are really pleased to have completed the signing of Ezri. He was much sought after and we are very happy that he has chosen us to continue his development. It is a really exciting signing for us because of his age, potential and attitude.

“He has played a lot of games at League One level and his potential is unlimited. Having spoken to many people who have worked with him at both club and international level, and having watched him numerous times, the coaching staff are all looking forward to working with him over the next three years.”

Brentford finished last season in 9th position in the Championship table, six points adrift of the play-off positions.
