Six points the target for Blackburn’s Whittingham ahead of Plymouth & Pompey

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Peter Whittingham believes it is imperative his side bounces back from Saturday’s defeat to Oldham, preferably with maximum points from their next two games.

Rovers take on Plymouth at Ewood Park this evening before hosting newly-promoted Portsmouth at the weekend, with Whittingham pleased at the speedy turnaround after Saturday’s loss.

And the 33-year-old is eager for Tony Mowbray’s men to take all six point from their upcoming fixtures.

“Let’s be honest, we should be winning the next two games. We feel like we’re good enough at home and that’s what we should be doing,” he told the club’s official website.

“This is a league where if you don’t play well on the Saturday, you have to go and play well on the Tuesday. Games come thick and fast. You can pick up six points in a week and it can completely change the outlook.

“That’s something we have to do. It’s part and parcel of what Blackburn are and something we want to be doing.”

The midfielder was disappointed not to get on the score-sheet at the weekend, with the final score proving more frustrating still.

“Yeah it was really disappointing in the end. We had a few chances – we didn’t play our best but even so, you want to be picking up points.

“It’s up to us at the minute, we need to be scoring more goals. We’re quite resolute at the back, but we’re not scoring many and that’s the problem.”
