Harry Redknapp worked wonders at Birmingham, winning as many games in two weeks as Gianfranco Zola managed in four months to keep the Blues in the Championship. If you forget the details, I’m sure ‘Arry will be happy to remind you. Frequently.

But even Redknapp’s achievements pale in comparison to Flynn’s escape act. When the 36-year-old novice replaced Graham Westley on March 11, Newport were 11 points adrift at the foot of League Two and had just lost 4-0 to Leyton Orient.

Their cause looked as hopeless as a David Moyes pep talk. But eight wins from 14 games and an 89th-minute winner from Mark O’Brien on the final day saw Flynn complete one of the most unlikely survivals in EFL history.
