Icelandic hero Sigurdsson signs for Fulham

Fulham have signed Icelandic international Ragnar Sigurdsson on a two-year deal from Russian side FC Krasnodar.

The 30-year-old defender starred for his nation at this summer’s Euro 2016, and scored the opening goal in their historic victory against England in the round of 16.

He played every minute of Iceland’s games at the tournament, before the Nordic nation’s brilliant run to the quarter finals was eventually halted by the host nation France.

On joining Fulham, Sigurdsson said: “I played a good tournament at the Euros and got some clubs asking about me but I’ve seen Fulham on the TV many times. It’s a good club, it’s in London. It has everything.

“The people I have met here all seem very nice, the atmosphere seems relaxed and very professional. I have good feelings.

“I’m just very happy and relieved that the deal is done!”

Sigurdsson began his career in Denmark, making 122 appearances for IFK Göteborg, before joining FC Copenhagen and representing them in both the Champions League and Europa League.

He also won both the league and domestic cup while with the Danish giants, and his form sealed a move to FC Krasnodar for £3million in 2014.

Sigurdsson will now be available for the away fixture at Blackburn on Saturday, while Lasse Vigen Christensen will also be in the squad, fresh after signing a one-year contract extension at the club.
