Stam gets his man: Harriott joins Reading

Reading have confirmed the capture of Charlton youngster Callum Harriott for an undisclosed fee.

The exciting 22-year-old winger has signed a 3-year deal at the Berkshire club after coming through the youth ranks at the south-east London club.

He becomes Reading’s eighth summer signing, and after an encouraging season last time out, making 21 appearances and scoring three goals for Charlton, Reading fans will hope he can carry on his development at the Madjeski.

Manager Jaap Stam said: “I think Callum is a player the fans will love if they like attractive, attacking football.

“He is the type of winger who is difficult for opponents to predict – he has a lot of pace, he’s good on the ball, very strong in 1v1 situations and he has goalscoring capabilities as well. I’m sure he will be a great asset to the team.”

After sealing his move, Harriott said: “I have been at Charlton since the age of eight and I will always be grateful to the club for their support and guidance from when I was in the academy through to becoming a first-team player.

“At this stage of my career, I feel like it is the right time for a change – I would like to wish Charlton the best for the future.”

Harriott will now join up with his teammates ahead of their Championship opener at home to Preston, where he will be hoping to make his debut for the club.
