Arsenal snap up Bolton starlet Holding

By Matt Storey

Arsenal have completed the signing of England U21 international Rob Holding from Bolton for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old defender broke into Bolton’s side last season having come through the clubs academy and won many plaudits for his displays at the heart of the Trotters back-line.

Holding was named the clubs player of the season as they finished bottom of the Championship and were relegated to League One.

His performances also saw him called up to the England U21 squad for the Toulon Tournament in May as a replacement for Everton defender Brendan Galloway.

He made two appearances as the young lions won the prestigious competition, although he didn’t feature in the final against France.

The Bolton-born defender has signed a long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium and told Arsenal’s official club website that it was the type of move you dream of as a kid.

The fee is reported to be £2.5 million but the neither the sum or the length of the deal have been released by the club yet.

The youngster is expected to join the first team squad as they travel to the USA next week for games against an MLS All-Star XI and Mexican side Chivas de Guadalajara
