Zyro facing lengthy absence with ‘significant’ injury

Wolves winger Michal Zyro is facing another spell on the sidelines, with the 23-year-old requiring surgery on an injury sustained in the win against MK Dons.

Zyro, signed from Legia Warsaw in January, stayed down following a challenge boss Kenny Jackett described as ‘dangerous’.

Phil Hayward, head of the medical team at Wolves, revealed the Polish attacking midfielder had suffered ‘significant multi-ligament damage’ to his knee and an initial assessment indicated he could be out for between ten to 12 months.

Hayward outlined the first steps Zyro faces in recovering from the injury: “He will see a consultant this week and will undergo surgery once the swelling has subsided at some point in the next two weeks.

“He is expected to be out for a considerable time, and the timeframe will become more apparent following the surgery,” Hayward concluded.

Signed for a fee believed to be around £350,000, Zyro has shown glimpses of quality that make him a Polish international but not without an unfair share of injuries.

A calf injury in January cut short his impressive run of 3 goals in his first three games and meant he was unavailable for 12 weeks. But with the new injury weeks turn into months in what Zyro classed as a ‘brutal attack’ on his knee by MK Dons’ Anthony Kay.
