Will Still is a manager who needs time. If Southampton weren’t going to give him that, they probably shouldn’t have appointed him in the first place.

But reappointing Russell Martin – currently favourite for the role following Still’s dismissal – would be an even worse decision.
Russell did a brilliant job at St Mary’s the last time Southampton were in the Championship, going on a club-record 25-game unbeaten run and eventually winning promotion through the play-offs.
But his style of play, which is based around keeping possession and building from deep, got found out in the Premier League....
