Former Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle and England winger Chris Waddle has launched a fierce attack on Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri, calling for him to sell the club “as soon as possible” amid growing financial uncertainty at Hillsborough.
Wednesday’s off-field troubles have continued to mount this season, with unpaid wages and stalled takeover talks leaving the club in a precarious position.
In an exclusive interview with BestBettingSites.com, Waddle described the situation as “really sad” and said the South Yorkshire side had “started to fall apart” under Chansiri’s ownership after a mixed campaign last season.
“I don’t know what Chansiri is all about at this stage,” said Waddle. “He had two years of throwing money at it to get out of the Championship. He failed at the play-off stages and it’s been downhill ever since.”

Greedy
“Last season, they were terrible at home, great away, and it’s started to fall apart. We don’t know all the details, we don’t know what to believe from the gossip.”
Waddle, who made more than 100 appearances for Wednesday between 1992 and 1996, believes the Thai businessman no longer has the financial means or motivation to lead the club forward.
“We hear a lot about what Chansiri wants and nothing seems to happen,” Waddle added. “One day there’s no buyers, then there is.
“Then they don’t pay wages, they can or can’t sign players. Really, he needs to just get out of the club, sell to a new owner, and let the club start again.
“In my eyes, I don’t think he wants to leave, and that’s why he keeps trying to hang on. But he’s had his day.
“He’s got no money, he’s not paying wages. Just sell the club. I don’t know if he’s being greedy, but supporters who go home and away to support this club are unbelievable and they deserve so much better.”

Disgrace
The former England international was also critical of Chansiri’s treatment of the club’s fanbase.
“I don’t think Chansiri spares a thought for the fans who’ve been there for decades. He has no respect for them, and that’s what angers me,” he said.
“Players come and go. Managers come and go, but the fans are always there. He’s just an absolute disgrace of a human being.”
Wednesday’s ongoing uncertainty has left supporters frustrated and anxious for change, with Waddle among a growing number of ex-players urging new ownership to take charge and rebuild the club’s foundations.
