THE first major midweek programme of Vertu Trophy group stage action this term brought an avalanche of goals – a whopping 87 were netted in just 20 ties!
Eight goals were scored in three of the games: Crewe hammered fellow League Two side Chesterfield 7-1, Huddersfield romped to a 6-2 victory against Newcastle U21s and Stockport ran out 5-3 winners against Wolves’ youngsters.
